The Hysterical Tyrannical Booth Family – A Presentation by Dr. Peter Lubrecht
The assassin John Wilkes Booth was the most famous member of his theatrical family; however, the theatrical legacy of his brother lives on today. Edwin Booth voted for Lincoln and was an avid supporter of the Union, while his brother John was a self-proclaimed spy for the Confederacy who committed what was considered one of the most tragically criminal acts of the 19th Century.
Dr. Lubrecht traces the family lineage, including the famous father Junius Brutus Booth, and follows John Wilkes Booth on his trail to fame and dishonor. After his reported death, there was conjecture that he had escaped and a substitute was killed. Did he end his life in Granbury Texas, or in the West or were his mummified remains taken on a barnstorming tour? Dr. Lubrecht will tell all!
Dr. Peter Lubrecht was awarded the George Hartleb Memorial Award for Excellence in German American Studies by the National Steuben Society in 2018. An avid researcher, with an interest in the Civil War, history, and German and American history. Lubrecht has been lecturing about German American contributions to American Culture locally and nationally. He is an adjunct professor of Writing and Humanities at Berkeley College however he also was with Lehman University Graduate School and Lincoln Center (Performing Arts in the English Classroom) Jersey City University, Bergen, Morris and Passaic Community Colleges. His website is: www.olpeteshistoryalive.com
(Because of a personal situation, our previously scheduled February speaker, Bob Costello as Lincoln, has canceled his engagements. We hope to see Bob again in the future.)
