Remembering Poe Join us for "Remembering Poe", portrayed by Helen McKenna Uff. About this Event This event is in honor of Poetry Month. As an actress and playwright, I have performed as Edgar Poe and Poe’s one-time fiancĂ©e, Helen Whitman since 1999. First “Poe-sessed” in high school when, for an acting class, I memorized “The Raven,” I fell in love with Poe’s poetry. Eventually, I came to love almost everything that Poe has written, so my repertoire expands. My first appearance as Edgar was at the Ritz Theater of Oaklyn, NJ. Bruce Curless, founder of the Ritz Theater, directed my performance as (Sarah) Helen Whitman in “Remembering Poe”. I had written “Remembering Poe” to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Poe’s death. Mr. Curless offered me the opportunity to play Helen Whitman for act one and, after Intermission, to return as Poe for act two. Wednesday, October 2 – Union County    Westfield Historical Society’s October First Wednesday Luncheon: “The Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe” with Dr. Carole Shaffer-Koros   Westfield, NJ  -- As part of The Westfield Historical Society’s  First Wednesday Luncheon  series, Dr. Carole Shaffer-Koros, will talk about  the many theories surrounding the Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe  for October 2, 2019. The event will begin with check-in at 11:45 am at the Echo Lake Country Club, located at 515 Springfield Avenue, Westfield.      Edgar Allan Poe is well known today for his Gothic horror stories as well as his poem “The Raven.” Born to popular stage actors in Boston on January 19, 1809, Poe experienced a life of tragedy from his earliest days.
