Monday, September 16 – Essex County THE VICTORIAN SOCIETY IN AMERICA, NORTHERN NEW JERSEY CHAPTER PRESENTS   The Importance of the Bicycle in 19th-Century Society Monday, September 16, 2019    7:30 P.M.  Montclair Women’s Club, 82 Union Street, Montclair Refreshments Served Members Free     Non-Members $10.00    Annual Membership only $40.00 Wheelman Gary Sanderson has been collecting and refurbishing antique bicycles from the 19th century since 1994 and boasts a collection of almost 200 antique bikes. He is an active Wheelman who enjoys riding long distances on his high wheel bicycle from the 1880s.  In 2004, he rode from Perth Amboy, NJ to Newport, Oregon, covering 3,600 miles in 60 days. And in 2006, he rode from Boston to New York City to publicize the first ride around the world in 1894/5 by Annie Londonderry, a Jewish mother from Boston.
