Sussex County - Montague Twp - Winter Festival @ High Point State Park

Saturday, January 25 - Montague Township, Sussex County Winter Festival Bring the whole family for a day of winter fun at High Point State Park. Activities will include winter-themed crafts, a story corner, guided winter hike, sing-along, hot cocoa and cookies by the fire, winter weather program, sled dogs, curling, snowshoeing, and ice-fishing demonstrations (conditions permitting). Please park in the gravel lot and walk up to the Interpretive Center. The New Jersey Dog Sled Club will attend and present an education program and sled dog demonstration. Saturday, September 7 – Sussex County Bait and Boat Festival  is coming on Saturday, September 7th from 1:00-5:00. (There is no rain date.) All the lakes at High Point State Park are safe and free of the algae bloom. Hurray! Below is the schedule for the day. We always greatly appreciate those of you who offer others the use of your boats! The park supplies the fire ring, firewood, 2 tables, 6 chairs, and water for boat washing.  You may want to bring food and drinks for yourself, and your own cozy camp chair, if you have a favorite. The concession stand was not open for the concerts and may not be again. Sundays, starting June 30 -- Sussex County Historic Montague Houses Reopening for Summer Tours  The Montague Association for the Restoration of Community History (M.A.R.C.H.) of Montague, NJ, is pleased to announce that our two historic houses, the Foster Armstrong House and Nelden-Roberts Stonehouse, will both be reopened for the summer for tours beginning on Sunday, June 30th from 1 to 4 p.m.  They will be open Sundays from 1 to 4 pm until August 25, 2019 The first of our featured seminars this summer includes a  special presentation during the reopening called “The Dutch, the Indians, and the Quest for Copper – Pahaquarry and the Old Mine  Road” by Frank Salvati.  For over 100 years it has been asserted that Dutch miners operated a copper mine in the upper Delaware Valley about 1650, then built a 104-mile-long road to what is now Kingston, NY to transport the ore to the Hudson River. Or did they?  Hear the true story of the old copper mine, the roa...

Sussex County - Montague - Annual Lake Marcia Clean Up event at High Point State Park

Saturday, May 4 – Sussex County Annual Lake Clean Up, Saturday, May 4 from 1-4PM     This year we're sending out a special call for volunteers! The Township of Montague will be sponsoring our Annual Lake Marcia Clean Up event at High Point State Park through the NJ Clean Communities program.  This program will turn our annual event into a fundraiser! The Township will pay the Friends $12 per person, per hour. If 25 volunteers clean-up for 4 hours, it will generate $1200 for the Friends of High Point State Park! It is funds like this that help pay for our concerts, yoga instructors, and other activities throughout the year.      All are welcome to come help raise money for the Friends of High Point State Park by joining us for this event.  Meet on the Beach of Lake Marcia at High Point State Park. Saturday, April 27 – Sussex County      The Montague Association for the Restoration of Community History (M.A.R.C.H.) is pleased to welcome the public to celebrate with M.A.R.C.H. and the Montague Grange at our annual Spring Fling event. In collaboration with the Montague Grange, the historic Foster Armstrong house will be open for house tours and old-fashioned craft demonstrations during the Spring Fling event on Saturday, April 27 th  from 1-4 pm.   The Foster-Armstrong House, circa 1790, is a two-story Dutch colonial house that operates as a museum and is located on SC521/320 River Road, about 1 mile north of the Milford/Montague Bridge. It is listed on the State Historic Register of NJ and is a National Historic Register Site. Ten rooms are set up with local history displays spanning important eras of the house and of Montague. Study displays and pictures of many treasured Montague sites from the past, examine the life a small Civi...
