Twin Lights Opens New Exhibit 1828 Monmouth Banknote Written by Muriel J Smith Published: 27 December 2019 Museum-goers can get a close-up look at the year the first set of Twin Lights was built with the opening of the newest exhibit at the Twin Lights Museum,  the 1820s. The 1820s were also the time of primaries and presidential elections, mud-slinging and politics, notably with the 1828 election of  Andrew Jackson when he defeated incumbent John Quincy Adams.  That election is widely regarded as the beginning of the down-and-dirty “mud-slinging” tradition in United States politics. What might it have been like to live in Monmouth County during that pivotal year? The new exhibit at the Museum explores that question and transports visitors back nearly two centuries through a group of rare artifacts from the 1820s. Guns Blazing: War of 1812 Exhibit Drops Anchor at Twin Lights Museum   Historic Single-Ship Victories Captured by Renowned Maritime Artist Maarten Platje A new, multi-gallery exhibit of historic maritime paintings is open to the public at the Twin Lights Museum. “Guns Blazing! The War of 1812 and the New Jersey Shore” features 15 dramatic works in oil by Maarten Platje, whose bold brushwork and attention to detail brings to life a game-changing chapter in American naval history. The exhibit, in Galleries II and III of the museum, also features historic artifacts and a short video on the 32-month conflict between the United States and Great Britain.  “Guns Blazing!” is the product of a partnership between two highly active local groups—Twin Lights Historical Society and Navesink Maritime Heritage Association—as well as Cavalier Galleries in New York City and the Twin Lights National Landmark. The War of 1812 and the New Jersey Shore" at Twin Lights Historic Lighthouse. Thursday, October 24 th  from 6:00pm to 8:30pm  This private party will be held in the art galleries at Twin Lights so that you will be able to stroll among the fifteen glorious large paintings created by the renowned maritime artist Maarten Platje.
