Sunday, March 15 -- Hunterdon County Hunterdon County Historical Society Program Focuses on History of Early Medicine in New Jersey with Dr. Gary Grover FLEMINGTON -- Cayenne pepper enemas to treat lung diseases? Hunterdon County - Christmas on the Farm at the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead Museum

Sunday, December 1   - Lambertville, Hunterdon County Christmas on the Farm at the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead Museum Join us to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season on Sunday from 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm. The 1711 House will be decorated for Christmas with a visit from Santa Claus.  The Farmstead Museum will be open for tours. There will be b lacksmith demonstrations, craft vendors, holiday music, crafts for the children, and refreshments for all. Take your own photos with Santa or with the antique sleigh.  $5.00 per guest donation, children 5 and under are free.  T he Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead Museum is located at 1605 Daniel Bray Highway, Lambertville, NJ. Hunterdon County - Flemington - New Jersey Women’s Heritage Trail

Sunday, November 10 – Hunterdon County Hunterdon County Historical Society www.hunterdonhistory.org      Celebrate women’s history and the coming centennial of women’s right to vote with the Hunterdon County Historical Society at its annual Fall meeting and lecture November 10 @ 2:00 pm at the Flemington Presbyterian Church in Flemington. Andrea Tingey, Historic Preservation Specialist with the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office, will present a pictorial journey through the  New Jersey Women’s Heritage Trail.    Ms. Tingey’s lecture will explore the Heritage Trail that defines many of the contributions made by notable women in New Jersey to history, science, religion, sports and business and the tangible legacies they left behind. Saturday, May 18 – Hunterdon County “How to Begin your Family Genealogy”  a workshop  for the beginner through advanced beginner tracing their family history Learn the basics of how to research your family history with a genealogy workshop at The Hunterdon County Historical Society on  Saturday, May 18, from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm.   The workshop will be held at the Society’s headquarters and library located at 114 Main Street in Flemington. Conducted by Betty DeSapio, PLCGS, of DeSapio Research Services, this workshop is geared for the beginner through the advanced beginner. Ms. DeSapio will focus on taking research to the next step by learning how to analyze and evaluate primary sources and how to determine the reliability of published information. Tuesday, May 14 – Hunterdon County HUNTERDON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO UNVEIL NEWLY RESTORED NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER    An 1835 sampler stitched by Hannah Gray (1822-1918) will be unveiled at  1:30 pm, Tuesday, May 14 at the Hunterdon County Historical Society’s Doric House , 114 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Needlework historian Marty Campanelli will briefly discuss the sampler, the instructress, and the motifs important to this work’s stylistic group of embroideries.    The sampler was donated to the society by a Gray family descendant in 1971. It has been restored and framed through a generous donation from Daniel C. Scheid of Princeton, NJ in memory of artist and needlework historian Dan Campanelli (1949-2017). Mr. Scheid was a co-curator, along with Dan and Marty Campanelli, of the landmark needlework exhibition,  Hail Specimen of Female Art ! at Morven Museum and Gardens in Princeton, New Jersey in 2014-15.    The public is invit...

Register early: Monday, April 22 – Hunterdon County Hunterdon County Historical Society’s Basic Archival   Care Workshop      The  Hunterdon County Historical Society  announces a spring workshop for institutions in Hunterdon County with archival holdings.  “Collections Care Tips and Tricks”  will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019, at 6:00 pm at the society’s archives at 67 River Road in Raritan Township.      Don Cornelius, HCHS Manuscript Coordinator, will discuss the basics of archival collection care focusing on organizations with limited resources. Mr. Cornelius will demonstrate “tips and tricks” that smaller institutions can use to increase the level of collections care without using large amounts of funds.  The workshop will include many examples for registrants to learn on the spot and will be held in the Society’s state-of-the-art climate-controlled facility where much of the society’s collections are pr...

Sunday, March 10 – Hunterdon County 2:00 pm Spring Membership Meeting and Lecture “A Proud Heritage” Presbyterian Church 10 East Main Street   The Hunterdon County Historical Society is pleased to present: “‘ A Proud Heritage”  on Sunday,  March 10, 2019 at 2:00 pm  at the Flemington Presbyterian Church, 10 East Main Street in Flemington.      The lecture explores the fascinating history of African Americans in the Sourland Mountain Region of New Jersey that was almost lost to time. As research partners, Elaine Buck and Beverly Mills co-authored the book, “ If These Stones Could Talk ,” (2018), based on over a decade’s worth of research on the contribution of African Americans who lived in this region.
