Ocean County - Brick - "The Magic of Cape Breton."

Tuesday, January 14 – Ocean County The Brick Township Historical Society will hold its first meeting of the new year on January 14, 2020, at 7:30 pm at the Herbertsville Firehouse, 601 Herbertsville Rd., Brick. The program is  "The Magic of Cape Breton." Maria Pilipski, past president of the Cape Breton Holding Company, assisted by current president Ray Topoleski, will explain why Cape Breton is such a special place in which to live. Ocean County - Brick - Brick Township Historical Society will hold its Annual Christmas Celebration at the Havens Homestead Museum

Friday-Saturday, December 6-7 – Ocean County     The Brick Township Historical Society will hold its Annual Christmas Celebration at the Havens Homestead Museum, 521 Herbertsville Road, Brick on Dec. 6 and 7 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm both days.   This year's theme is "Santa's Workshop." The three main buildings will be decked out in holiday attire. There will be entertainment and refreshments. The Lizzie Herbert Gift Shop will feature specials with seasonal merchandise. The society has a new item - Havens Homestead tee shirts for $10 each. If Santa can get away from the North Pole, he will be making an appearance. Donation is $5.00 for adults, and children under 12 are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door.    Parking is in a lot 150 ft. east of the museum accessed by a driveway that says "Robert Anstett Cultural Center." For more information see the website:  www.bricktownshiphistoricalsociety.com ...

Tuesday, November 12 – Ocean County     The Brick Township Historical Society will hold its next meeting on November 12, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. at the Herbertsville Firehouse, 601 Herbertsville Rd., Brick.       Kevin Woyce, author, photographer, and lecturer will give a program about NJ State Parks, showing original photographs from around the state. He will explain how many of the original peoples of the area influenced the names of places in the state.  Also, he will speak of industry and the beginnings of our transportation system with the building of canals.     Free admission; the public is welcome. Parking is in the rear of the firehouse. Ocean County - Brick - Ice Cream Social/Picnic and Fall Festival

Sunday, September 8 – Ocean County    On Sunday, September 8,  the Brick Township Historical Society will sponsor an Ice Cream Social/Picnic and Fall Festival  at its Havens Homestead Museum property, 521 Herbertsville Rd., Brick from 12 noon to 4 pm, rain or shine.       There will be games for children. Guests are welcome to bring their own picnic lunches (no grills, please) and buy a variety of made-to-order ice cream treats . Sundaes, Rt. 88, Pt. Ocean County - Brick Twp - Annual Civil War Encampment

Saturday-Sunday, August 3-4 – Ocean County Photo left: Jim Heine from the 61st NY Regiment.      The Brick Township Historical Society will host the 61st New York Regiment for its Annual Civil War Encampment on August 3 and 4 at its Havens Homestead Museum property , 521 Herbertsville Rd, Brick. Visiting hours are 10 am to 4 pm on August 3 and 10 am to 2 pm on August 4. Free admission; donations gratefully accepted.      The soldiers will camp out for the weekend, march, fire guns, give demonstrations and interact with the public. Society members will give tours of the museum.  There will be specials in the Lizzie Herbert Gift Shop, and there will be a large bake sale, also featuring jars of preserves.    Parking is in a lot 150 ft. east of the museum, accessed by a sign that says, "Havens Farm."    For more information: www.bricktownshiphistoricalsociety or call 732-785-2500.

Ocean County - Brick - Giant Annual Yard Sale

Saturday, June 1 – Ocean County       The Brick Township Historical Society will hold its Giant Annual Yard Sale at its Havens Homestead Museum property, 521 Herbertsville Road, Brick from 8 am to 2 pm.  Rain date is June 2, same hours. There will be a vast array of reasonably priced merchandise including household goods, furniture, costume jewelry and much more. An NJ licensed gold/silver dealer will be on hand to purchase unwanted gold or silver. The society will hold a large bake sale, and the Lizzie Herbert Gift Shop will feature specials. There are no outside vendors. Friday, April 26 – Trip to Amish Country The Brick Township Historical Society will sponsor  a trip to the Amish Country. There will be a step-on local guide who will explain the culture and family ethics that influence the Amish way of life.  Several stops will be made for shopping at Amish businesses and at the Bird-in-Hand Market. Cost is $74 for members and $79 for non-members which includes transportation, all touring, the smorgasbord at Shady Maple and all gratuities. Email the society website at  www.bricktownshiphistrocialsociety.com  or call 732-785-2500 for availability and a reservation.

Ocean County - Brick - Havens Homestead Opening

S aturday, April 13  - Brick Township, Ocean County Havens Homestead Opening The Brick Township Historical Society will re-open its Havens Homestead Museum at 521 Herbertsville Road, Brick, NJ for the 2019 season on Saturday from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon.  On that day will be a special exhibit of coins from the collection of Russell Martone. This collection consists of one penny from each year, a numerical collection from 1850 to 2019. As Martone observed, "Cents are made each year from different mints, Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco." But, he has been fortunate to collect 169 pennies from those successive years. The museum will be open for tours on Saturdays from April 13 through October from  10:00 am - 12:00 noon  except for major holiday weekends. Ocean County - Brick - “New Jersey Women and Royal Marriages”

Tuesday, March 12 – Ocean County The Brick Township Historical Society will hold a meeting at 7:30 pm at the Herbertsville Firehouse, 601 Herbertsville Rd., Brick.  “New Jersey Women and Royal Marriages,” presented by Melissa Ziobro, Specialist Professor of Public History at Monmouth University. As all  Downton Abbey  fans know, before Cora Crawley became the Countess of Grantham she was Cora Levinson, American heiress. As part of the marriage contract, Cora’s fortune was tied to the Grantham family’s failing estate to prevent it from going bankrupt.      While  Downton Abbey ’s Granthams are fictional, the idea of wealthy American heiresses marrying impoverished European nobility is not. There were hundreds of these marriages, including several featuring brides from New Jersey.     Melissa Zioboro, Assistant Professor of History at Monmouth University, will introduce us to the so-called “dollar princesses” of the Gil...

Ocean County - Brick - “Christmas in the Castle”: Day trip to Bucks County, PA.

NOVEMBER 29, 2018 ALL DAY “Christmas in the Castle” Brick Township Historical Society Day trip to Bucks County, PA. We will have a tour called “Christmas in the Castle” at the Glencairn Museum, and also, we will see the parts of the museum that the family resided in. We will visit Byers’ Choice and learn about the famous caroler dolls and observe production of them. In addition there will be an exhibit of over 200 mangers from around the world. A full luncheon buffet will be at the 1700’s Joseph Ambler Inn. Price is $85 for members and $90 for non-members, includes transportation, all admissions, luncheon and gratuities for wait staff and bus driver.  Brick Township Historical Society
