Sunday, March 15 – Hunterdon County Brian Armstrong Speaks about Prohibition in NJ, 1919-1933, at THS Rescheduled THS Annual Meeting     Due to inclement weather and the subsequent cancellation of the Tewksbury Historical Society Annual Meeting in January, Brian Armstrong, independent historian, researcher, and author,  will speak at the rescheduled Annual Meeting on March 15th, Sunday, at Society's Headquarter, 60 Water St., in the Mountainville section of Tewksbury at 1 PM. The meeting is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.      Armstrong will trace the development of Prohibition in New Jersey - how it happened, its enforcement problems and its ultimate repeal. Wednesday, March 11 – Morris County     The Museum Garden Club of Jefferson will meet on Wednesday, March 11 in the Riker Room of the Jefferson Township Library, Weldon Road, Jefferson, at 7:00 p.m.  Gardeners of all skill levels are welcome to attend this meeting and to join the Garden Club. New members are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Volunteering in the Museum Gardens is a rewarding experience, learning and working alongside several Master Gardeners and dedicated members.      The Museum Garden Club’s main focus is to develop and maintain the gardens surrounding the Jefferson Township Museum, also known as the George Chamberlain House. Other activities include an annual plant sale and decorating the Museum for Museum Christmas. Anyone interested in joining the organization is encouraged to attend this meeting.  For further information, contact  gardener.jhs@jeffersontownship.net  or follo...

Sunday, February 23 – Somerset County     Annual Meeting of the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association will be held on Sunday, February 23 at 1:30 pm. at the sites’ Visitor Center at 71 Somerset Street in Somerville.       The annual meeting will include a review of upcoming programs and events and an opportunity to meet Paul Soltis, the new curator. In honor of George Washington’s 288 th  birthday, noted historian and author William L. (Larry) Kidder will provide insights on George Washington from his recent book  Ten Crucial Days  at 2:30 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., Commander Andrea Cahill-Adair and members of Somerville's American Legion Post 12 will participate in the raising of the American flag as well as General George Washington's headquarters flag.

Sunday, September 29 – Mercer County The 2019 Annual Meeting of the Hopewell Valley Historical Society Sunday, September 29, 2019, 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Titusville Presbyterian Church, Heritage Room, 48 River Drive, Titusville,    The Annual Meeting will open with a business meeting for HVHS. Members will be asked to vote on a slate of officers and new trustees. After the business meeting,  Pam Cain will present a program based on her experience conducting the historical society’s House Lineage program in the 1980s and 1990s. Her presentation will discuss her methodology for doing the research, with examples, and include some of her interesting findings. The HVHS “house plaques” on more than 100 Hopewell Valley properties were a direct result of Pam’s research.     Pam served the historical society as treasurer and valued board member for many years. Sunday, September 15 -- Salem County Salem County Historical Society Annual Luncheon The Salem County Historical Society will host its  2019 Annual Luncheon on Sunday, September 15 th  at the Inn at the Salem Country Club (pictured) in Salem, NJ. This year’s luncheon will be of special interest as it will be in memory of former Board Trustee William J. Sunday, June 9 – Somerset County     The D&R Canal Watch Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 9 will feature naturalist, photographer and canal enthusiast James C. Amon.     For twenty-nine years, Jim Amon served as the executive director of the D&R Canal Commission, guiding that organization through its formative years, planning for the canal park’s future, guiding development of the park and administering a regulatory program to protect the canal from the harmful impacts of new development.     Upon his retirement in 2005 he became the director of stewardship for the D&R Greenway Land Trust, taking responsibility for managing over 100 nature preserves comprised of approximately 4,000 acres.   Jim lives in Lambertville with his wife, Kathleen, and their dog—really her dog— Sally. Telling Untold Histories   New Jersey's Annual Unconference!  Telling Untold Histories Unconference 2019  We all tell stories. But how we tell those stories changes depending on who and where we are and on the conditions of our lives and institutions. People of color, women, LGBTQ and gender nonconforming people and people with differing abilities have used various strategies-from whisper networks and kitchen conversations to protests and public demonstrations-to speak truth when society prefers they remain silent.
