Tuesday, September 10 – Morris County       The Franklin Park Tragedy , Tuesday, September 10 th  at 7:00 p.m. in the Lower Level Meeting Room of the Morristown and Morris Township Library.      On March 1, 1894, two African American men broke into a home in rural Franklin Park and murdered a white woman and her daughter before her husband fought and killed the attackers. The newspapers called it the “Franklin Park Tragedy,” and the story captivated public attention nationally and abroad. Another tragedy came afterward, with the racist forced expulsion of many local African American residents.      Author Brian Armstrong, Vice-President, Central Region, of the League of Historical Societies of New Jersey and former President of the South River Historical and Preservation Society, will tell the shocking story of this “sundown town” and how it evolved into the diverse community that exists today.  ...

Sunday, March 10 – Morris County Civil War Women of Compassion, Courage, and Grit A Lecture by Rich Rosenthal 2 p.m. at the Morristown and Morris Township Library, 1 Miller Road, Morristown, NJ    Join us in the library’s lower level meeting room, for  a story of wartime survival—not from cannons and bullets—but from life itself.    Rich Rosenthal, president of the North Jersey Civil War Round Table, has lectured on numerous historical subjects. He was a founding member of the North Jersey American Revolution Round Table, along with pre-eminent New Jersey historian, the late John T. Cunningham.    Mr. Rosenthal will tell us about New Jersey’s own Cornelia Hancock, who defiantly goes to Gettysburg after being rejected as a nurse for being too pretty; Mary Ann Bickerdyke, who set up hospitals and kitchens and even followed General Sherman through the mountains of Georgia on the way to Atlanta; and Sara Pryor, who lived through privati...

Sunday, December 9 – Morris County  Morristown and Morris Township Library’s North Jersey History and Genealogy Center and Macculloch Hall present “An Afternoon with Thomas Nast” on Sunday, December 9, 1:30 p.m.    Meet at Morristown and Morris Township Library, 1 Miller Rd., Morristown, NJ, 07960,’s Lower Level Meeting Room at 1:30 p.m. for the screening of two half hour length documentaries,  The Grand Caricaturama  and  Villa Fontana . Then join Macculloch Hall’s F.M.
