Sussex County - Montague - Historic Montague Houses Reopening for Summer Tours

Sundays, starting June 30 -- Sussex County Historic Montague Houses Reopening for Summer Tours  The Montague Association for the Restoration of Community History (M.A.R.C.H.) of Montague, NJ, is pleased to announce that our two historic houses, the Foster Armstrong House and Nelden-Roberts Stonehouse, will both be reopened for the summer for tours beginning on Sunday, June 30th from 1 to 4 p.m.  They will be open Sundays from 1 to 4 pm until August 25, 2019 The first of our featured seminars this summer includes a  special presentation during the reopening called “The Dutch, the Indians, and the Quest for Copper – Pahaquarry and the Old Mine  Road” by Frank Salvati.  For over 100 years it has been asserted that Dutch miners operated a copper mine in the upper Delaware Valley about 1650, then built a 104-mile-long road to what is now Kingston, NY to transport the ore to the Hudson River. Or did they?  Hear the true story of the old copper mine, the roa...

Sussex County - Montague - Spring Fling @ The Foster-Armstrong House

Saturday, April 27 – Sussex County      The Montague Association for the Restoration of Community History (M.A.R.C.H.) is pleased to welcome the public to celebrate with M.A.R.C.H. and the Montague Grange at our annual Spring Fling event. In collaboration with the Montague Grange, the historic Foster Armstrong house will be open for house tours and old-fashioned craft demonstrations during the Spring Fling event on Saturday, April 27 th  from 1-4 pm.   The Foster-Armstrong House, circa 1790, is a two-story Dutch colonial house that operates as a museum and is located on SC521/320 River Road, about 1 mile north of the Milford/Montague Bridge. It is listed on the State Historic Register of NJ and is a National Historic Register Site. Ten rooms are set up with local history displays spanning important eras of the house and of Montague. Study displays and pictures of many treasured Montague sites from the past, examine the life a small Civi...

Saturdays and Sundays, November 24, 25, December 1, 2, 8, 9 – Sussex County  1 – 4 pm:   Foster Armstrong House .     This year’s themes are “Angels & Elves and Miniature Christmas Villages."  Representations of the treasured classic,  A Charlie Brown Christmas  will be found and an operating Model Train Christmas Display will be featured.     Both houses are open by appointment for small groups. The MARCH Research Library at the FAH is open by appointment only. Call (973)293-3949 to schedule.
