Saturday, February 23 – Sunday, March 3 – Mercer County Mark Twain in Trenton Posted in  Education ,  Events ,  Exhibits ,  Featured , Upcoming Events ,  Upcoming Exhibits Young Mark Twain in Trenton: A week-long commemoration of Twain’s visit to Trenton in 1869 150 years ago, on February 23, 1869, a young Samuel Clemens, better known by his pen name “Mark Twain,” came to Trenton. He drew a crowd to the Taylor Opera House on South Broad Street where he gave a speech on the topic of his then-recent trip to Europe and the Holy Land. At age 34, Mark Twain was just beginning to make a name for himself at the start of his great literary career. Through January 13 – Mercer County Trenton’s Christmas Past Featuring historical photos of downtown Trenton during the holiday shopping period On display now – January 13, 2019 Second Floor From Trenton Magazine, Curator Karl Flesch has compiled images of advertisements from dozens of Trenton stores with their suggested gift ideas. The exhibit brings back memories of the Christmas decorations put up by the city in the 1940s, 50s and 60s and the many department and other stores that people came from all over to visit and shop in for the holidays. Gift boxes found under many an area Christmas tree are included in the display from stores such as R.A. Donnelly, Mason’s, Dunham’s, Lit Brothers, Nevius Voorhees, Arnold Constable and others. The exhibit also features a ventriloquist doll made by Trenton doll manufacturer Horsman and a 60th anniversary edition Slinky that was made originally with Roebling wire.
