S aturday, October 12 -- Mercer County On September 13, 1759, during the Seven Years' War (1756-63), a worldwide conflict also known in America as the French and Indian War, the British under General James Wolfe achieved a dramatic victory when they scaled the cliffs over the city of Quebec, capital of New France, defeating the French forces under Louis-Joseph Marquis de Montcalm. By virtue of this victory and the subsequent defeat of the French in India, Britain became master of the world.
