Saturday, November 16 – Sussex County     Lecture on the construction of the Historic Lackawanna Cut-Off:  sponsored by the Sussex County Historical Society. This PowerPoint talk will cover the building of the Cut-Off from 1909 to 1912 by seven contractors working simultaneously, beginning in Sussex County and extending through Warren County.           The Cut-Off was considered one of the engineering marvels of the world in 1912 because of the extensive use of concrete and the immense amount of earth moving (over 15 million cubic yards).     The lecture will begin at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, 110 Main Street, Newton (corner of Main Street and Liberty Street). Historic Cold Spring Village’s Annual Railroad Days will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am - 4:30 pm. Railroad Days is the perfect outing for folks interested in railroad history, model and toy trains, or just enjoying a unique collection in a unique historical setting. In the Village Welcome Center, under the Friends’ Pavilion, and along the Village’s shady lanes, visitors will find presentations and displays from a variety of groups. Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines Model RR Club is taking over the Welcome Center and the Atlantic County 4H Train Club will set up a display in the Friend’s Pavilion for you viewing enjoyment.  Dave Calvert, in the Taylor Poultry Building, will display his G scale trains including a handmade Hell's Gate Bridge, a colorful circus train and antique buildings constructed as early as 1890. Sunday, July 7   - Whippany, Morris County Ice Cream and Excursion Train Rides July is National Ice Cream Month, so join in the fun at the Whippany Railway Museum on Sunday for a 10-mile, 45-minute round trip train ride. Your ticket includes a scoop of delicious ice cream after the ride. Present your punched ticket at the Snack Depot to get your free ice cream. ONLY punched tickets, presented AFTER the ride time, will be accepted for the ice cream. No ice cream can be consumed aboard the train. For a slightly higher fare, you can upgrade your excursion experience by riding in our elegant 1927-era Club Car “Jersey Coast”, with all the amenities of 1930. Any unsold tickets will be available at the ticket office on a  CASH only first-come, first-served basis. The combined age of the equipment used on the vintage train is over 630 years! Sunday, June 16 - Whippany, Morris County Father's Day Excursion Train Rides Spend Sunday with Dad at the Whippany Railway Museum on a 10-mile, 45-minute round trip excursion from Whippany to Roseland on a mid-1900s Excursion Train. The combined age of the equipment used on the vintage train is an astounding 635 years! Be on the lookout for deer, turtles, wild turkeys, hawks, and rabbits, as the route takes you past a natural swamp with abundant wildlife. Trains depart at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00 pm from 1 Railroad Plaza at the Intersection of Route 10 West and Whippany Road in Whippany, NJ. Train fare for Caboose seating is: Adult: $16; child (under 12): $11; infants (1 year and under): Free. Train Fare includes admission to Whippany Railway Museum Building. Morris County - Chester - Chester Railroad Extravaganza

Saturday,  June 15   - Chester, Morris County Chester Railroad Extravaganza On Saturday from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Cooper Gristmill, celebrate the 1800s Chester Railroad with hands-on activities and guided walks along the old railroad bed. Learn the history of trains, and enjoy model train sets on display. The gristmill is open from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. The last guided tour of the gristmill begins at 3:30 pm. The suggested donation to tour the Gristmill is $3 per adult, $2 per senior (65+), and $1 per child age 4 - 16.  FREE per child under age 4, and Friends of Fosterfields and Cooper Mill members with a current membership card.  The Cooper Gristmill is located at 66 Route 513, Chester, NJ. Celebrate the return of spring and the Easter holidays with a ride on the Whippany Railway Museum's Easter Bunny Express. Our Special Easter Train Ride ensures a fun outing for the kids...and the entire family. During each excursion, the Easter Bunny makes his way through the train and visits with the children onboard. The Bunny's helpers follow along, giving the kids a special Easter gift. Be sure to bring your camera and take pictures of the kids with the Easter Bunny, so they can always remember their day onboard the train!
