   Garden State author Michael C. Gabriele will present a program on “The History of Diners in New Jersey” on Tuesday, February 19 at the Remigio U. Pane Room, located on the first floor of the Alexander Library at 169 College Avenue in New Brunswick. The program will begin at 4 p.m. Admission is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend.

    New Jersey is universally recognized as the “Diner Capital of the World.” Friendly, familiar beacons on the Garden State’s highways, byways and downtown business districts, diners play an important role in New Jersey’s culture, commerce, mythology, and community life, and serve as the ultimate egalitarian dining experience.

    Gabriele’s program complements the exhibit From Cooking Pot to Melting Pot: New Jersey’s Diverse Foodways, which opened last November and will be on display until February 28, 2019. Copies of Gabriele’s book on New Jersey diner history, published by The History Press, will be available for sale.

Saturday, June 29  - Burlington Township, Burlington County Historic West Hill Manor  220th Anniversary Historic West Hill Manor will celebrate its 220th Anniversary on Saturday from 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm.  Talk to Colonial soldiers about their life on the march and in battle. Learn to make your own ice cream and how to use a spinning wheel. The kids will enjoy our new Toy Room and play with toys from the past. Our handmade dollhouse will also be on display. At 3:00 pm, there will be a special presentation on Freemasonry and The Underground Railroad.  Admission is $10 per adult and $5 per child under 12.
