Come Celebrate George Washington’s 287th Birthday
February 17, 2019

Come celebrate George Washington’s 287th birthday on Sunday, February 17, 2019 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at Washington Crossing Historic Park in Pennsylvania. Admission is free this year thanks to financial support from The Philadelphia Contributionship.


During the day, buildings in the historic village will be open and various children’s activities will be offered. At 2:00 pm, visitors will gather in the park’s visitor center to sing happy birthday to George and watch him use his sword to cut his cake, which is donated by The Caketeria in Newtown.

Children are encouraged to send George homemade birthday cards prior to the event. Cards can be mailed to P.O. Box 1776, Washington Crossing, PA 18977. All children will receive a written reply from George.


Washington Crossing Park is located at the intersection of Routes 32 and 532 in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Washington Crossing Park. Sunday, June 9 – Somerset County Save the Date for a visit with an  18th-Century Surgeon-Dentist      Let us be clear: George Washington did not have wooden teeth. However, he did have dental problems through most of his adult life, as did many 18th-century folk of both high and low social class. There were no regular visits to dentists, with tooth brushing and flossing in between at that time.  There weren't even dentists as we know them today. Dentistry was only just evolving as a separate profession through the eighteenth century. Barber-surgeons or surgeon-dentists provided many more services than our modern dentists. Toothbrushes were somewhat new, but rare for most people to use or even own.
