A Lecture on Morris County History

    From its days as the “military capital of the revolution” to the 21st century home of 500,000, Morris County has witnessed more history than any other place in the union. Jim DelGiudice will present with words and images such subjects as landmarks (both famous and hidden), personalities (with an emphasis on women), and technology (from the industrial revolution to the space age). 

Jim is a lifelong New Jersey resident, photographer, and history expert. His photography has appeared in several National Register of Historic Places nominations, and he has been the primary photographer for two books about NJ architecture. 

Cost: Free to members and $5.00 per lecture for other attendees. This lecture will be held at the historic Tunis-Ellicks House, 16 Village Road, New Vernon, NJ 07960. Parking is free.

Sunday, June 9 – Somerset County Save the Date for a visit with an  18th-Century Surgeon-Dentist      Let us be clear: George Washington did not have wooden teeth. However, he did have dental problems through most of his adult life, as did many 18th-century folk of both high and low social class. There were no regular visits to dentists, with tooth brushing and flossing in between at that time.  There weren't even dentists as we know them today. Dentistry was only just evolving as a separate profession through the eighteenth century. Barber-surgeons or surgeon-dentists provided many more services than our modern dentists. Toothbrushes were somewhat new, but rare for most people to use or even own.
