Essex County - Montclair - "Historic Upper Montclair Business District, Then and Now"

Monday, November 19 – Essex County

THE VICTORIAN SOCIETY IN AMERICA, NORTHERN NEW JERSEY CHAPTER
    (victoriansannj.org) PRESENTS
"Historic Upper Montclair Business District, Then and Now"
7:30 pm at the Montclair Women’s Club, 82 Union St., Montclair, NJ
Admission: $5 non-members, Free for members.

Historian Helen Fallon will give an illuminating slide show presentation of the Historic Upper Montclair Business District, chronicling the development of the area from a rural settlement in the 1880s to a burgeoning suburban town in the 1930s. Historical facts, neighborhood lore, some architectural notes, and plenty of “then and now” comparison photos will be featured. The program was developed by Ms. Fallon and Lisanne Renner, Historian of Friends of Anderson Park.

Ms. Fallon is a trustee of the Montclair History Center (formerly the Montclair Historical Society) and has developed walking tours and presentations on numerous areas of Montclair. A resident of Montclair since 1990, Ms. Fallon’s interest in Montclair history was piqued by her children’s school field trip to the Crane House and Historic YWCA, one of the historic house museums operated by the Montclair History Center. Professionally, Ms. Fallon works as a communications consultant, primarily in the architecture and engineering industry.

The Victorian Society of America was founded to protect and preserve -- as well as to promote understanding, education and enjoyment of – our 19th Century heritage. The Northern New Jersey Chapter of the VSA holds a meeting with a presentation by a guest speaker each month. Meetings are held at the Montclair Women’s Club at 82 Union Street in Montclair. Admission is $5 for non-members. Refreshments are served. For further information, visit the website victoriansannj.org.
