Morris County - Morris Twp - A Time for Burning @ Morristown and Morris Township Library

Saturday, November 17 – Morris County
Morristown and Morris Township Library, in conjunction with Bethel A.M.E., will show A Time for Burning, a 1967 Academy Award-winning documentary, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, in the library’s lower level meeting room. The documentary focuses on a Reverend’s idea to have the families of his all-white church have dinner in the homes of families of Hope Lutheran Church, an African-American congregation a little more than a mile away.
In 2005, Library of Congress, preserved this film for the United States National Film Registry because they decided the documentary was “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Dr. Lillie Edwards, retired Drew University professor, will draw parallels between what happened in the film with similar events in Morris County and New Jersey in the past and present.

If you can’t join us for the film, we hope you will stop by to see an exhibit, The Ties That Bind, about the history of African-American and White Relations in the nation and New Jersey, in the library’s F.M. Kirby Gallery on the second floor. The exhibit will be on display through January 5th, 2019.
