Passaic County - Haledon - "A Neglected Legacy: Reclaiming a Radical Past"

The Museum proudly opens the exhibit A Neglected Legacy:  Reclaiming a Radical Past by Michele Fazio, Ph. D. on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at 7PM.
A Neglected Legacy:  Reclaiming a Radical Past features photographs from 1943 that tells the story of the integration of first-generation Italian immigrants into becoming full-fledged Americans.  The exhibit also tells the hidden history of two brothers, Raimondo and Vincenzo Fazio, who were engaged in the Italian American Left's fight for social justice during the early 20th-century U.S. labor movement.
According to Dr. Fazio, Associate Professor, Department of English, Theatre and Foreign Languages at the Unversity of North Carolina at Pembroke, "this family story challenges the dominant narratives that have come to define U.S. history and encourages a reconsideration of the past, calling into question not only how we understand immigration and activism today but, ultimately what is both gained and lost in the process of becoming American."
This program is made possible in part by a grant administered by the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council from funds granted by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
The general public is cordially invited to the Museum's annual May Day Festival where Dr. Fazio will discuss her exhibit.  The May Day Festival takes place on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at 7PM.
A Neglected Legacy:  Reclaiming a Radical Past exhibit by Michele Fazio, Ph.D. is on view at the Museum through August 24th, 2019.
