Black Maria Film Festival at Hoboken Historical Museum
Wednesday Evening Spring Film Series Sponsored by Hudson County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs and Tourism
The Hoboken Historical Museum welcomes back the Black Maria Film Festival for a four-part monthly series of documentary film programs from the Festival collection. Black Maria Executive Director Jane Steuerwald will host the custom-curated programs, and lead a discussion with the audience. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the films will screen at 7 pm, each lasting about an hour. Admission is a suggested $5 donation, which includes light refreshments.
The final session is Wednesday, June 6.
Wednesday, June 6, 6:30 pm: Program 4 presents the final featured film in the series, the highly regarded “Return to Dak To” by Christopher Upham. Mr. Upham will be present to discuss this moving and personal film about his experiences as a combat medic in Vietnam. Upham and four of his veteran comrades returned together to vibrant contemporary Vietnam to confront their feelings, sacrifices, shortcomings, and pride of service. “Returning to Dak To” provides an unexpected closure for these men as they give voice to personal traumas that connect to the universal sufferings of war.
