Jazz Concert: Brian Betz Jazz Quartet featuring Denis DiBlasio at Franklin Library (Somerset)

   The Brian Betz Jazz Quartet featuring Denis DiBlasio will be performing an afternoon of jazz on Sunday, June 10 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Franklin Township Public Library. This concert is free and open to the public. Registration is requested but not required. 

   Brian Betz is a guitarist, composer, and educator currently on the faculty at Rowan University where he teaches jazz guitar and improvisation. He is a two-time winner of the Betty Carter International Jazz Competition (2004, 2007) and a runner-up for the 2006 Henry Mancini Jazz Competition. He has 6 CDs.
Denis DiBlasio is the Executive Director of the Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz at Rowan University and is a saxophonist, composer, arranger and musical director for the Institute. He is an internationally acclaimed performer, clinician, and educator for the Yamaha Music Corporation of America. He is a published author of five texts on jazz improvisation and a recording artist for Encounter Records with nine CDs under his own name.

Sunday, June 9 – Somerset County Save the Date for a visit with an  18th-Century Surgeon-Dentist      Let us be clear: George Washington did not have wooden teeth. However, he did have dental problems through most of his adult life, as did many 18th-century folk of both high and low social class. There were no regular visits to dentists, with tooth brushing and flossing in between at that time.  There weren't even dentists as we know them today. Dentistry was only just evolving as a separate profession through the eighteenth century. Barber-surgeons or surgeon-dentists provided many more services than our modern dentists. Toothbrushes were somewhat new, but rare for most people to use or even own.
