Thursday, February 28 – Bergen County BCHS Lecture Series: Women's Fierce Fight for the Vote by Penny Colman at 7:30 pm at Steuben House, River Edge, NJ Penny Colman will present an  illustrated program about Women's Fierce Fight for the Vote. Penny Colman is the author of award-winning biographies and social histories. Her intriguing topics range from Rosie the Riveter: Women Working on the Home Front in World War II to Thanksgiving: The True Story. A popular speaker, Penny has appeared on television, radio, including National Public Radio, and on Book TV, C-Span2. The lecture takes place in the 18th century State Historic Site, the Steuben House. 1209 Main St, River Edge, NJ. No charge. Please join us for refreshments at the conclusion.

Wednesday, February 27 – Essex County Cedar Grove Notables      What do Marty Liquori, Allen Du Mont or Amanda Freitag have in common? They all lived in Cedar Grove. Join the Cedar Grove Historical Society on  February 27 at 7:30 p.m. when Jean Jaeger will present a program entitled “Cedar Grove Notables.”  The program will highlight residents who have contributed to the growth of Cedar Grove and some who lived here and made contributions to the world at large. She will take you back to the 1800s and up until the present day.     The program will take place at the Cedar Grove Public Library, 1 Municipal Plaza in Cedar Grove. Jean Jaeger is the secretary of the Cedar Grove Historical Society, editor of their newsletter and Cedar Grove Township Historian. The Hopewell Valley Historical Society and the Hopewell Museum's Joint Program Committee announce Historical Watercolors: Hopewell Valley and Beyond Wednesday, February 27th at 7:00PM Hopewell Branch Mercer County Library 245 Pennington-Titusville Road Pennington NJ 08534 In collaboration with the Hopewell Branch Library, Jacquelyn Pillsbury will share watercolors created by her late mother-in-law, Joyce Enoch Pillsbury. Joyce resided in Ewing, NJ for over 60 years. While her artistic talents were diverse, Joyce's watercolors of quirky local scenes, including barns, historic buildings, industrial sites, nature scenes, and urban buildings represent a unique perspective of Mercer County. Stop in the Community Room during the month of February to see some of the watercolors that Joyce painted. THE ART OF GARDENING AT CHANTICLEER Tuesday, February 26, 6:30 p.m. Chanticleer’s Executive Director R. William Thomas Join Chanticleer’s Executive Director and Head Gardener R. William “Bill” Thomas for a visual tour and behind-the-scenes look at what the Washington Post calls “one of the most interesting and edgy public gardens in America.”  Chanticleer, once the home of the Rosengarten family, is known for its residential-scale plant combinations featuring foliage textures and colors, its wide variety of containers, and its imaginative homemade furniture. This is a garden where the staff are the designers, competing with each other and with the horticultural world to design an intriguing, visually pleasing, and environmentally responsible garden. Bill Thomas will offer insights on what inspires this special place.   The Art of Gardening: Design Inspiration and Innovative Planting Techniques from Chanticleer will be available for sale and signing following the lecture.

Monday, February 25 – Somerset County Poetry Reading: Jacquese Armstrong reads from Blue Legacy at Franklin Library (Somerset)     Poet and writer Jacquese Armstrong will be reading from her newest book of poetry,  Blues Legacy , on Monday, February 25 at 7 p.m. at Franklin Township Public Library in Somerset, NJ. This event is free and open to the public.      Blues Legacy  is Armstrong’s exploration of the relationship of African-Americans to music and their relationship to the United States. Her reading will center around some pieces from  Blues Legacy  relating specifically to music.     Jacquese Armstrong is the recipient of the 2019 Naomi Madgett Long Poetry award and resides in Central New Jersey. Sunday, February 10 -- Union County         The Union Township Historical Society will host open houses from 2 pm to 5 pm on  Sunday, February 10 , and  Sunday, February 24 , at the Caldwell Parsonage, 909 Caldwell Avenue, Union. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served.      In commemoration of Black History Month, an exhibit, "The Veterans of Vauxhall," by the Vauxhall Historical Society will be on display; as well as an exhibit by the UTHS on Eulace Peacock, Union High School Class of 1933 track star, who competed against Jesse Owens and later became his business partner.
