Mount Tabor, New Jersey is an historic Camp Meeting community on the National Register of Historic Places. This special annual historic house tour showcases the interiors of over 15 Victorian cottages and historic community buildings on a self-guided, walkable (but hilly!) tour. This is your opportunity to look inside our gingerbread “dollhouses”. After “check-in” on the day of the tour, you are given a souvenir tour booklet complete with house descriptions and a tour map. The entire tour is walkable, but be advised for those with mobility issues, getting around Mount Tabor involves some hills. You are free to tour houses in any order and at your own pace. Please look for special events celebrating our special 25th anniversary tour!
Special features of the tour include a furnished replica Camp Meeting Tent and the Richardson History House, a camp meeting cottage museum. Stop by the gift shop, which is stocked with Mount Tabor souvenirs and vintage items! There will also be boxed lunches and beverages for sale. Proceeds of the tour fund museum restoration, educational programs and beautification projects in Mount Tabor.
Founded in 1869, the Mount Tabor Historic District has the distinctive characteristics of a permanent Methodist Camp Meeting Ground that evolved into a summer resort community. Particularly notable is the architecture of the early camp meeting Stick-Style and Gothic Revival-influenced cottages with their prominent steep gables, open porches and elaborate gingerbread embellishments.
Tickets are $25.00 per person in advance and $30.00 at the ticket booth the day of the tour. The shuttle bus from the tour parking area (see below) will take you to the ticket booth.
If you order your tickets online in advance, please print your PayPal receipt and bring it to the House Tour to receive your ticket(s) at the ticket booth. You will not receive an electronic ticket, or a ticket by mail. (see FAQ)
To order tickets by post, mail the check along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Mount Tabor Historical Society/House Tour, P.O. Box 271, Mount Tabor, NJ 07878
