FOCUS ON THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION: YOUNG PATRIOTS’ DAY SEPTEMBER 23 AT THE PRINCETON BATTLEFIELD STATE PARK
The Princeton Battlefield Society invites you to join us in bringing colonial life, the American Revolution, and the January 3, 1777 Battle of Princeton to life for students at its first “Young Patriots’ Day” on Sunday, September 23. The full-day event (10 am to 4 pm) will include:
· Reenactors who will offer participation in drilling, marching, and camp life as well as learning about musket and cannon firing.
· Living history demonstrations with various craftspeople.
· Tours of the Princeton Battlefield providing a minute-by-minute account of the battle and George Washington’s victory. Our new brochure, Battle of Princeton, January 3, 1777, will be available to all attending.
· Tour of the Thomas Clarke House, the only remaining major structure on the battlefield. The house, in which General Hugh Mercer succumbed to his battle wounds, served as a hospital in the weeks after the battle.
· Activities for kids and their families, including presentations by George Washington and Ben Franklin. New Jersey authors, Trinka Hakes Noble, Wil Mara, and Rob Skead, children’s authors, will also discuss their Revolutionary War books.
· Information tables by various New Jersey historic sites and organizations.
· A food truck will be on site during the event.
Registered “young patriots” will receive a packet of materials including a Young Patriot’s Day button, a Battle of Princeton coloring book, chances to win prizes, and other educational materials. A $10 registration donation per family or group is requested and can be made on our website www.pbs1777.org. At the event, the registration donation will be $15. Information on this event can be found on our website or you may contact Bill Marsch at wrmarsch@gmail.com for further information.
