Mercer County - Trenton - Foundation @ 50: Celebrating Five Decades of Support

Foundation @ 50: Celebrating Five Decades of Support
September 22, 2018 – January 27, 2019
Main floor

This year, the New Jersey State Museum Foundation celebrates the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1968. Established to support the then fledgling art collection, the Foundation has grown to support all aspects of the Museum’s work including educational programming, exhibitions, archaeological and scientific excavations, scholarly research, donations to the collections, artifact conservation, publication of exhibition catalogues, upgrades to planetarium equipment, professional development for Museum staff, and so much more. This exhibition includes objects, artifacts and specimens which have been added to the Museum’s collections through the support of the Foundation and is but a small portion of the contributions made by the Foundation and its members.

On display in Foundation @ 50 through Jan. 27: Earth Rug, c. 1960 - 1980, dyed wool, by Grace Benally, New Mexico. This rug is a Navajo sandpainting, or dry painting, showing Mother Earth and Father Sky. The figures are symbolic representations of Navajo mythology.
