Friday-Saturday, November 23 through December 9 – Hunterdon County

Holiday season is finally here at the Red Mill Museum Village, and you can celebrate with us at Festival of Trees, starting Friday November 23rdand running through Sunday December 9th. Festival of Trees a beautiful holiday display of decorated trees, wreaths and centerpieces donated by the local community. Are you a crafter yourself? We are still accepting submissions for the 2018 Festival! Entry forms are available here: http://bit.ly/2NmAS3e  Please submit your entry form to Assistant Director Marie Salthouse by Monday November 2th at programs@theredmill.org. Forms can also be dropped off or mailed to the office at 56 Main Street, Clinton, NJ 08809. Drop off for decorated items will take place the weekend of Friday November 16th through Sunday November 18th during our operating hours.

    New this year for the Festival of Trees is our Winter Village, a German-style holiday market taking place on Saturday November 24th from 12-5 pm. Outside in a heated tent, the market will feature 40 local craft artisans, vintage peddlers and food trucks. Entry to the Winter Village is included with your museum admission. The opening weekend of Festival of Trees coincides with the Town of Clinton’s annual Dickens Days celebration, Friday November 23rd through Sunday November 25th. This is the perfect holiday outing for the whole family!

Sunday, June 9 – Somerset County Save the Date for a visit with an  18th-Century Surgeon-Dentist      Let us be clear: George Washington did not have wooden teeth. However, he did have dental problems through most of his adult life, as did many 18th-century folk of both high and low social class. There were no regular visits to dentists, with tooth brushing and flossing in between at that time.  There weren't even dentists as we know them today. Dentistry was only just evolving as a separate profession through the eighteenth century. Barber-surgeons or surgeon-dentists provided many more services than our modern dentists. Toothbrushes were somewhat new, but rare for most people to use or even own.
