9th ANNUAL GINGERBREAD CONTEST AND DISPLAY

The smells of gingerbread are in the air in the hometown of Greenwich!

Holiday Greetings to You,

On behalf of the Cumberland County Historical Society, I invite you to enter the “9th Annual Gingerbread Contest and Display.”  Children, teens, adults and groups of all ages may enter their masterpieces in the competition.  This event will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 in Santa’s Workshop located at 884 Ye Greate Street in Greenwich.  

Elaborate or simple, big or small, nothing gets you into the holiday spirit like building and designing your very own gingerbread creation.  Your creation does not have to be a house.  Be creative and design another type of structure.  Let your imagination run wild and join us in a very sweet tradition.

This year is the perfect opportunity to start a new holiday custom and it is never too early to begin working on this awesome event.  Did you know you can bake and assemble your structure right now!  It can easily keep until the competition.  In fact, the drier the better!  Build the framework of your structure, assemble and let dry until the big day.  The only rule for the competition is that all materials, including decorative items, must be edible (except for the base).  Your display should be mounted on a base that is durable and can be moved. Plywood, cutting boards and cookie sheets make good bases—not cardboard.

All entries must be delivered to Santa’s Workshop between 9 a.m. and Noon on Saturday, December 8th.  Judging will begin promptly at 1 p.m.  A panel of community volunteers will judge the entries.  All gingerbread creations will be on display at Santa’s Workshop for the 49th annual “Christmas in Greenwich” to be held the next day, Sunday, December 9th.

Registration for the event is free.  Please complete the enclosed entry form and forward to the Cumberland County Historical Society.  You may also print out the entry form located on our website at www.cchistsoc.org.

P.S.  Please share this invite with your family and friends.  The competition is open to everyone.  The gingerbread contest and display has grown in more than just entries.  It has become a true family holiday tradition.  From the very young to the very young at heart, the reaction to this magical experience is the same—one of wonder, awe and delight.  We had 24 entries last year and we hope to exceed that number this year!
