The Roebling Museum is proud to present another installment of its monthly, Saturday Lecture Series, Join us for a discussion and demonstration presented by Dr. Justin Parkoff from AECOM. Dr. Parkoff will include film footage demonstration of conservation and preservation methods to be utilized.
The existence and daily operations of the Roebling Museum are a result of decades of work and efforts to document, preserve and exhibit the history, heritage, and legacy of the John A. Roebling’s Sons Company, the Roebling family and the village of Roebling. The Museum's focus is not only on the industrial and technological achievements of the company but on the unique social history of its workforce and the town it created.
In collaboration with the Roebling Museum, the EPA, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Township of Florence, AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is providing historic artifact mitigation services for the Roebling Steel Superfund Site in Roebling, New Jersey. With expertise from Head Archaeological Conservator, Dr. Justin Parkoff, Ph.D., RPA, AECOM is working on plans to provide for the preservation of the existing artifacts and equipment from the John A. Roebling’s Sons Company Steel Mill. Currently, on display at the Roebling Museum, these artifacts are large industrial objects that were involved in the manufacturing process at the steel mill. AECOM's initial approach to designing a conservation and preservation plan includes assessing the current condition of the artifacts, designing and proposing a treatment approach, and proposing a professional mitigation plan that will further extend the life of each artifact currently in place on the Mill Yard, including the locomotive, crane car, flatbed car, ingot and mold cars, ladle, charging pot, slag pot, flywheel, and La Tourneau forklift.
