NJ Women Vote: The 19th Amendment at 100
The Suffrage Movement and the Work of Alice Paul

This year marks the centennial of women's suffrage in the U. S. Why did it take so long? How did we finally get there?  Discover the answers to these questions in Linda Barth's presentation, "Alice Paul: Champion of Women's Suffrage," based on her book of the same name.
The Union Township Historical Society will host Linda on Sunday, March 8, at 2 pm at Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church, 888 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served during the book signing, following the presentation.

Linda’s program brings to life the suffragists’ dramatic story of bringing the vote to American women. New Jersey women were prime movers in that struggle—with marches, protests, and jail time. Learn about the role of New Jersey suffragist Alice Paul in securing the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution in 1920.

Linda worked with the NJ state committee to plan events celebrating the centennial of the 19th Amendment. A lifelong resident of the Garden State, she has written two books on the D & R Canal, as well as three children’s picture books—Bridgetender’s Boy, Hidden New Jersey, and Alice Paul: Champion of Women’s Rights. Linda has also authored A History of Inventing in New Jersey: From Thomas Edison to the Ice Cream Cone and New Jersey Originals. With her husband, she published The Millstone Valley Through Time and Somerville Through Time. Linda has also contributed to the Encyclopedia of New Jersey.
