     The Genealogical Society of the West Fields invites you to join Randi Koenig, Principal of Legacy Genealogy Services on Thursday, January 9, 2020.  The meeting will be held at 1:00 pm in the Westfield Memorial Library located at 550 East Broad Street, Westfield, NJ. 

    A professional genealogist with over 15 years' experience, Randi not only provides comprehensive family research (international and domestic) but also specializes in forensic genealogy for kinship proceedings. Based in the New York City area, Randi is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and National Genealogical Society and many other genealogical organizations. She is a registered researcher at the Florence, Italy Archives and the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland. A longtime presenter of genealogical workshops and lectures to Genealogical Societies and Adult Education Centers, Randi is passionate and enthusiastic about genealogy and sharing her knowledge.

Sunday, June 9 – Somerset County Save the Date for a visit with an  18th-Century Surgeon-Dentist      Let us be clear: George Washington did not have wooden teeth. However, he did have dental problems through most of his adult life, as did many 18th-century folk of both high and low social class. There were no regular visits to dentists, with tooth brushing and flossing in between at that time.  There weren't even dentists as we know them today. Dentistry was only just evolving as a separate profession through the eighteenth century. Barber-surgeons or surgeon-dentists provided many more services than our modern dentists. Toothbrushes were somewhat new, but rare for most people to use or even own.
