Union County - Union - The Caldwell Parsonage at Four Centuries in a Weekend

Four Centuries in a Weekend -- more events for October 20-21

   The Union Township Historical Society's Caldwell Parsonage will serve as a host site for Union County's Four Centuries in a Weekend, Saturday, October 20-Sunday, October 21 (12 noon-5 pm). The Parsonage is a National Parks site; a stamp is available for collectors.
      UTHS members dressed in colonial attire will greet guests. Students from Kawameeh Middle School's National Junior Honor Society and Union High School's History Club will serve as interpreters.

       Members of Girl Scout Troops 40024 and 40515 will assist will colonial crafts, such as corn husk dollmaking, and colonial games.

       In keeping with Union County's 2018 theme, “Invention, Innovation and Industry,” the UTHS will:

·        host Extreme Party Racing, 12 noon-4pm on Saturday, so visitors can race remote-controlled cars—a reflection of Union history because, at one time, the town was home to two race tracks—"Tri-City Stadium" for motorcycles and midget cars and "Union Speedway" for motorcycles and auto racing;

·        display panels about the history of Union's schools that were created by Union High School's new History Club;

·        exhibit artifacts and photos related to Thomas Edison; and

·        display farm implements and historic TVs, radios, and office devices in the Tool Museum in the barn.

In keeping with the museum’s namesake, Rev. James Caldwell, portrayed by Meridoc Burkhardt, will interact with visitors. Historic trading cards will be distributed as long as supplies last. Refreshments will be served. Souvenirs will be available for sale. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
