Upper Gallery Hoboken: A Retrospective by Alex Morales Uruguayan artist Alex Morales returns to the Hoboken Historical Museum with a new batch of 15 paintings of his beloved adopted home of Hoboken. The public is invited to a free opening reception on Feb. 16 from 2 - 5 pm. The exhibition will remain on view through March 29. Saturday, March 28 – Somerset County Somerset County Historical Society in Partnership with the Manville Public Library Hosts Talk on Doris Duke     The Somerset County Historical Society is pleased to announce the second in this year’s series of History Talks.  Join us at the Manville Library, Saturday, March 28 at 2 PM for  an afternoon with local author Rikki Lyn Hauss-McCarthy as she discusses the lavish life of one of Somerset County's most famous residents, Doris Duke.    Ms. McCarthy will be chronicling Doris' life and the demolition of her New Jersey mansion. Her book  The Duchess of South Somerville , will be available for purchase. Saturday, March 28 – Essex County Dressed to Kill: Fashion in the Victorian Era 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.     Learn about the hidden dangers of Victorian fashion and enjoy a Victorian-style reception in the gracious atmosphere of Kingsland Manor.   From arsenic in clothing to blazing crinolines, to lead in cosmetics, throughout history, we have worn deadly clothing and makeup to be at the height of fashion . . . even if it kills us. Wednesday, February 5 – Passaic County Black History Exhibit Explores the Achievements of Patersonians     The Paterson Museum is excited to announce the opening of its newest changing exhibit,  “Thus Shall They Upward, Onward Press: An Exploration of the History of African Americans in Paterson from 1600-Present .”     Installed in honor of Black History Month, the exhibit is a survey of the accomplishments of many of Paterson’s African American citizens. The exhibit will feature some familiar citizens, such as Larry Doby,  but visitors will also learn about some individuals like Dr. Norman Cotton , Minerva Miller and Henry Otis Harris who also made an impact on our community. The exhibit will be in place from Wednesday, February 5 th  through Saturday, March 28 th  in the Hannah Memorial Gallery.
