Wednesday, July 17 -- Monmouth County
As proud New Jerseyans, we bristle when we hear our fine state made the target of jokes by outsiders. Little do they know, but New Jersey has spawned enough great inventions to fill not one, but two books. Prolific NJ historian Linda Barth has just released New Jersey Originals, the sequel to her initial volume, A History of Inventing in New Jerseyand her eighth book on New Jersey history overall.

The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society is pleased to host Ms. Barth for a speaker night to be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 7:30 pm at the Strauss Mansion Museum, 27 Prospect Circle, Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey. Ms. Barth, a retired teacher, writer and traveler to all parts of our state, will surprise and amaze you with the sheer volume and variety of inventions produced in our little state. Figuring prominently is our most famous native inventor, Thomas Edison, holder of over 1,000 patents, but did you know that he owned a concrete company which manufactured poured concrete houses, some of which still stand today in parts of New Jersey?
NJ is the state that produced a number of significant inventions with military applications, including radar, night vision goggles and weather satellites. We are also the state that gave the world M&M's and beer cans.

Join us for this fascinating presentation and lively discussion with our guest. Copies of Ms. Barth’s books will be available for purchase and autographing at the event. Admission is free.
