Union County - Westfield - Come Celebrate Flag Day! @ Miller-Cory House Museum

Come Celebrate Flag Day!
Miller-Cory House Museum, 614 Mountain Avenue, Westfield

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress resolved that “the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white,” and that “the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson officially established June 14 as Flag Day. The museum will celebrate our Stars and Stripes with a presentation and a children’s flag craft. Tours of the restored, fully furnished farmhouse, built in 1740, and demonstrations of early American open-hearth cooking are included. Admission is $4 ages 13 and older; $3 ages 3-12 and free age 2 and younger. No reservations are necessary. Call the museum at 908-232-1776 or email millercorymuseum@gmail.com for more information.

This will be the final program of the season; the museum will be closed for the summer and will reopen in mid-September. The office will be open, however; school/scout tours or other special programs may be scheduled for the fall. The museum will also be holding training classes over the summer for individuals interested in becoming a volunteer. There are many opportunities to match all sorts of interests, including giving tours, cooking over the open hearth, helping with craft programs, gardening, and others. Full training is provided, and there is no minimum requirement of hours.

Please check www.millercoryhouse.com or the museum’s Facebook page in late summer for the Fall 2019 Schedule of Events. The Miller-Cory House Museum Volunteers thank everyone who has visited the museum over the 2018/2019 season!
