Morris County - Oak Ridge - Museum Garden Club of Jefferson Meeting



Wednesday, March 20 – Morris County

    The Museum Garden Club of Jefferson will meet on Wednesday, March 20 in the Riker Room of the Jefferson Township Library, Weldon Road, Jefferson, at 7:00 p.m.Gardeners of all skill levels are welcome to attend this meeting and to join the Garden Club. New members are welcome and no experience is necessary. Volunteering in the Museum Gardens is a rewarding experience, learning and working alongside several Master Gardeners and dedicated members. 

    The Museum Garden Club’s main focus is to develop and maintain the gardens surrounding the Jefferson Township Museum, also known as the George Chamberlain House. Other activities include an annual plant sale and decorating the Museum for Museum Christmas. Anyone interested in joining the organization is encouraged to attend this meeting.

Sunday, June 9 – Somerset County Save the Date for a visit with an  18th-Century Surgeon-Dentist      Let us be clear: George Washington did not have wooden teeth. However, he did have dental problems through most of his adult life, as did many 18th-century folk of both high and low social class. There were no regular visits to dentists, with tooth brushing and flossing in between at that time.  There weren't even dentists as we know them today. Dentistry was only just evolving as a separate profession through the eighteenth century. Barber-surgeons or surgeon-dentists provided many more services than our modern dentists. Toothbrushes were somewhat new, but rare for most people to use or even own.
