Sunday, June 30   - Sandy Hook, Monmouth County Going Bunkers: Nine Gun Battery Explore with a park ranger, the longest concrete gun battery built by the U.S. Army in the United States for harbor defense. When construction began in 1897, the battery was originally intended to mount three 10-inch caliber disappearing guns, but when construction was completed in 1904 an additional six 12-inch caliber disappearing guns were emplaced, creating a nine gun battery that operated until 1944. Bring a flashlight and walking shoes. The tour starts at 6:00 pm and lasts approximately one and a half hours. Call the Sandy Hook Visitor Center at 732-872-5970 to make a reservation. Sunday, June 30 – Cranbury Museum Open Sunday, 1 to 4 PM   Commemorate the 200 th wedding anniversary of Henry and Isabella Reid Hull Sillcocks Henry (1793–1846) and Isabella Reid Hull (1796–1890) were married on June 16, 1819 at the Presbyterian Church of Cranbury, New Jersey. As part of the Cranbury Museum’s permanent collection, portraits of the Sillcocks are being highlighted during the month of June and throughout 2019.  More information about the Sillcocks portraits and other interesting Cranbury history can be found by visiting the Cranbury Museum located at 4 Park Place East, Cranbury or at  www.cranburyhistory.org   On view through July in the Perrine Wing: The History of the Cranbury Police.

Children will be given a ‘Pastport’ at the start of their Village trip, which can be stamped at the buildings they visit after completing a take-home craft or activity, like writing with a quill pen, carding wool or making a pinch pot. Saturday-Sunday, June 29-30 – Hudson County Hoboken Museum On  June 29 at 10 am , we have just added a  new historic walking tour  to our calendar:  " A River Walk Across the Ages : Ships, Trains and Beverages Too! ," led by Terry Pranses, a former Museum trustee and frequent Hoboken tour guide on various subjects. This tour costs $25  and is limited to 20 participants.  Finally, on  Sunday, June 30, at 10 am and 1 pm , we are pleased to offer two  Historic Walking Tours of Stevens Campus , hosted by the university's archivists, Leah Loscutoff and Ted Houghtaling. Calling All Artists! The Montclair History Center's quilt collection is the inspiration for a fall art exhibition at Studio Montclair. Artists are invited to submit works of art that are inspired by the antique quilt collection at the Montclair  History Center . "Inspired by" can be interpreted broadly to include a shape, a color, a process, materials, or even a reaction to words that describe a quilt or the women who made them and/or their place in society. Please note:  Existing artwork that fits this theme may be submitted for this call. On Saturday at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm, a t 1:00 and 2:00 pm, during a hands-on guided tour, learn about the role of the domestic servants at the Foster home, The Willows, during the WWI era. Help the maid with household chores, and learn it was a full workout to keep a proper house. At the end of the tour, you can help the cook prepare historic foods using the wood-burning cook stove. From 1:00 - 2:00 pm, gather at the Farmhouse herb garden to discover how herbs enhance the taste of food. Make a sachet to take home.
