New Jersey Black Bears with Tom Sheppard

    Black Bear have made their presence felt all across the state. Over 15 years have passed since Hunterdon County was declared Black Bear country in 1999. Join Tom Sheppard, Chief Park Naturalist, to learn the basic ecology on Black Bears, how to reduce your chances a negative encounter with these animals as well as the future pressures that Black Bear in New Jersey face. This event will be Thursday, April 25th, at 6:30 pm at Prallsville Mills in Stockton.

    Sheppard has been with the county for almost 20 years where he is the Chief Park Naturalist.  Along with all his duties, he is an avid birder and has and is birding around the country. He just sat his 709th species in the country over the Christmas holiday in Maine. His family also dates back to the earliest days of the county and offers some history programs with the county. To learn more about those programs and others program by Tom and his colleagues visit the County Park Website at www.co.hunterdon.nj.us and click on “Parks & Recreation.”

    The Prallsville Mills complex in Stockton, NJ, is considered a significant example of early American industrial architecture that was included on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
